Fibulas Mikeleus

So a couple of weeks ago I discovered a weird bump on Mikele's leg. It was very hard and big. I took her into our pediatrician's office and he sent us up for an x-ray. He wasn't concerned about the bone like piece growing out of her fibula. I decided that I wanted a second opinion and took her down to Primary Childrens to meet with a pediatric orthopedic specialist.
We went down the night before and stayed in a hotel in Salt Lake to pass the time we went out and had dessert at a near by restaurant. The appointment was first thing in the morning. The pediatric orthopedic specialist gave us a lot more information. Basically it is an osteochondroma that is a lot more common than you would think. (I had never heard of it before but he sees a number of new cases each week.) It is a bone growing out of a rogue piece of cartilage that attached to her fibula. They will leave it for now because it isn't hurting anything and surgery is riskier than leaving it. It will continue to grow as long as she is growing.
After the appointment we took Mikele home. On the way my sister called to find out about the appointment and suggested a name for Mikele's special 207th bone. When we got back into town Mikele had us drop her off at school because she was done talking about it and ready to get back to her normal life.
