Everythings Amazing & Nobodys Happy

Jason shared this video with me and I have to say it is hilarious and way too good to not share.

Enjoy!

Spring Piano Recital

It is time again for the semi annual piano recital. Brock and Mikele each played 2 songs this year. They both did great.

Brock was a little upset because he messes up a little and was frustrated because he had been playing the song perfect for weeks. I told him it is what happens when you play in front of 40 people.

Mountain Man Rendezvou

I was able to go on Brock's field trip with the 3 4th grade classes to the mountain man rendezvous.  We had a great time spending the day together hearing all about the mountain men and their way of life.

Yes that lady is playing the flutes with her nose.

 Some serious drumming

 Where's Brock?

This lady told the kids how you get your mountain man name. You either to something really cool or something really stupid. After we talked to her the kids asked every other presenter what their mountain man name was and how they got it. The kids loved the stories of the people who did something stupid to earn their name.

This was a favorite. The man was making bullets out of lead.  It was really cool.

The man makes these sashes on the loom. They cost around $100 each.

We also learned how to put up a teepee. At least a miniature version.  We had such a great time and the weather held out and didn't rain on us.

Wellsville Mile

This was the first year that we have experienced the Wellsville Mile.  It is truly an experience. All the 4th and 5th graders from the county run this race.  They are split into 3 heats in 4 categories: 4th grade girls, 4th grade boys, 5th grade girls, 5th grade boys. It is crazy in my opinion.
This first picture is of the pre-race festivities. Brock was feeling nervous about the race. The weather was pretty cold but the rain held off.

Kassie and Allie and I were seated right by the finish line with Kim and Grant.

Brock was in the 3rd and fasted heat of boys.

The kids had to run around the block twice to complete the mile.

Headed for the finish line! His time was 7 minutes and 59 seconds.  He was ranked about 66 of 120 boys.  I didn't see the finish line time because the clock hadn't reset yet. Fortunately Brock was giving a piece of paper with his time on it.

Brock's Soccer Season

Brock had a great season this year.  His team won I believe almost every game. Brock is getting better each season. He usually plays left or right forward. He didn't score any goals this season but he had a couple of great shots and was usually right where he was suppose to be. This summer he is attending a soccer camp. Here are a few pictures to recap his year.

Mikele's Soccer Season

Mikele played soccer again this spring. It was a cold snowy season.  The team only won maybe one game. Ouch.  Mikele played really well and has started playing goalie which is very stressful for Mom.  Here are a few pictures to sum up the season. . .

Update on the flooding

The river broke out of its banks and flooded the fields to the East.

So now it runs over the bridge to the east of the bridge. The pile of rocks and logs are on either side of the bridge.  The county had piled it up to keep the river inside its banks as it ran over the bridge but the river didn't cooperate and broke out further up stream.

Most of this is all because of the rain and we still have all the snow to melt. It looks like it will continue to be an exciting spring/summer!

Brock's 10th Birthday Recap

We celebrated Brock's birthday on Monday because I was out of town at a Close To My Heart business event. Brock wanted to go to Texas Road House for his birthday dinner. We had taken the kids to dinner there a few months ago on Family night thinking that the kids meals were free with the purchase of an adult entree. Well apparently they don't do that but they did give the kids t-shirts and they frosted cookies and if they wear their t-shirts on Monday night they get to pick out of the treasure box. So fast forward to the Monday before Brock's birthday and he wanted to go back.
Everyone but Allie enjoyed the photo op with the armadillo. (Does anyone besides me think that is a weird mascot?) Allie actually was freaking out and terrified of the guy. The other reason Brock wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse is because when we were their before he saw people who were celebrating their birthday get to sit on a saddle and the waiters and waitresses made a huge deal about their birthday. Surprisingly Brock wanted to sit on the saddle too. For a child who does not like the attention he was pretty excited about it. Brock also wanted to wear a cowboy hat so one of the waiters let Brock wear his.

After dinner we headed home for presents. Brock opted for a bigger gift and no friend party this year. He really wanted the Lego Harry Potter game for the wii. I was able to get it for a 1/3 of the price and so we were able to also get him a Snap Circuits set.

Grammy sent him the first book in the Fablehaven series (which he has started) and a wooden model airplane that he is very excited about.

I was pretty excited that he played with his snap circuit set before opening the Wii game.

My parents gave Brock his first chess set. I played him last Sunday and have to say there was a time during the game that I really thought I was going to loose.

After presents we were still to full from dinner to eat cake and ice cream so we just put candles on the cake and sang to Brock. I believe Brock had a great birthday. I am still just in shock that my boy is 10.

Spring Flooding

I have had a few people ask if we are being affected by Blacksmith Fork river flooding. Although the river is just at the end of my block (about 4 houses away) it is down hill from our home and we are high and dry. That said it is pretty impressive how much water is flowing down and over the banks of the river. I took a few pictures on Saturday and then again this morning.

This first picture is from Saturday. Notice the white rocks at the bottom of the hill.

This picture is from today. No more rocks. Normally all the land that is now under water is dry.

These two pictures (above) are both from Saturday. The Cache County employee that has been cleaning out branches and logs that was hitting the bridge said that there is 7 times the normal water flow. They were working on the bridge when I went to take pictures so I don't have a today shot of the bridge.

These last two pictures are from today. The river is suppose to be running along the tree line at the top of the photos but is pouring over the bank into a field. Thankfully it is filling up the fields that are adjacent to the river and not people's homes.

Happy Birthday Brock!!!

Today is my son's 10th birthday!!!  Brock is an AMAZING son, brother and friend.  He has a quirky sense of humor that is getting funny again. Recently he realized that the word "hot" doesn't always refer to temperature but also to how someone looks.  He told me that I was like a toaster because I am "HOT" then he laughed shyly because he wasn't talking about my temperature.
I love and hate the above picture of Brock. He says it is his "cool" look. He does look good but he also looks so grown up.  I can't believe we are only 2 years away from Brock receiving the priesthood, 6 years from a drivers license and dating, only 8 more years of public education and 9 years to his mission.  I have been warned that time will just keep going faster and that is scary considering how fast the last 10 years have gone.
We celebrated Brock's birthday on Monday because I had a "scrapbook lala" according to Brock today and tomorrow. Brock decided that he wanted to go to Texas Road House for dinner because it was kids night and he could pick out of the treasure box. He also wanted to wear the big hat and have the staff sing Happy Birthday to him.  This was his year to have a friend party but he decided he would rather have a bigger gift.  He wanted the Harry Potter lego game for the Wii.  We found it for less the half the price of what it use to be and so we were also able to surprise him with a Snap Circuit set.  My parents also gave him a Chess set that he is very excited about. My Dad recently taught him how to play chess.  I came in half way through Mikele and Brock's game and took over for Mikele.  At one point during the game I honestly thought I was going to loose!  Brock I hope you have a FABULOUS day today! Love ya kid.
