Red Ribbon Week

This week is Red Ribbon Week at school. It is a week dedicated to kids staying off drugs. Monday they had an assembly, Tuesday the kids wore red, Wednesday was crazy hair day, Thursday was pajama day and Friday they dressed up in their Halloween costumes. Here are some pictures from crazy hair day.

Brock did his own hair. I tried to talk him into letting me shave a smiley face into the back of his head but he wouldn't go for it. I did Mikele's hair.

Uno Candy Style

For FHE we played Uno candy style. Here is how it worked: If you played a 3 or a 1 (31 Halloween) you got to pick a piece of candy out of the pumpkin. If you played a draw 2 or a draw 4 the person who had to draw got to pick a piece of YOUR candy. Here are some fun photos from the night.

Yes, Kassie's cards at that good!

Brock is stealing one of Jason's treats and Jason doesn't look to happy about it. Well actually he looks like he is asleep.

It must have been really funny!

More Funny Things My Kids Say

Scene: Kassie was mad because I wasn't doing her hair right and ran off to her room pouting. She came back in with her hands on her hip and declared "Mom, I have feelings!"

More Leaf Pictures

We have just loved the fall leaves this year. It helps to have trees full of leaves in our own front yard for the kids to play in. I had to share a few more pictures.

Must make pile bigger.
Oh BOY!
To cool to rake. . .
. . .but not to cool to play!

Helicopter Flying

Jason and Brock flew their helicopters on Sunday. I think we survived the flight without any major crashes!

Cooper's New Tricks

We adopted our second dog (the 1st one we unadopted). Cooper has been great for the most part. He has chewed up a few things like Jason's boot, my hammock, his dog bed but overall he has been great. We have been teaching him a few tricks including fetch, rolling over, shaking and jumping through the hula hoop. What a smart puppy!

Every dog deserves a nice belly rub after a great performance!

Enjoying The Fall Leaves!

We have the most gorgeous fall leaves right in our front yard! Sunday was sunny and warm outside so the kids raked up a pile of leaves and did what we all dream of doing to a big pile of leaves; JUMPED IN THEM!

Kids Say the Funniest Things

I love reading what my friends kids say and I thought I would share some of the recent antics that have come from my own kid's mouths.

Mom: "Brock did you get your bed made?"
Brock: "I told Mikele if she made my bed I would play whatever she wanted"

I am sure we all remember bribing our younger siblings to do stuff for us. I am SOOO glad nothing has changed! (if you can't tell I am being sarcastic)

Scene: Jason peeling potato with Kassie watching
Kassie: "Dad those potatoes are naked!"

Scene: Jason driving with the whole family in the car. We stop at an intersection past the stop sign.
Mikele: "DAD you are suppose to stop behind the stop sign!" (Thank goodness for those back seat drivers!)

Scene: Jason and Nicole playing a round of golf on the Wii
Mikele: "Who is winning?"
Mom: "I am"
Miklee "Ohh Dad I hope you win!"
Mom thinking: Thanks for the support! Actually Jason was winning.

Scene: Mikele talking to Jason Monday morning:
Mikele: "Dad can you ask your boss if you could come home early for lunch to eat with me?"

Mom: "Kassie, what was that?"
Kassie: "I farted. I like that sound. I did it two times."

Scene: Mom in her scrapbook room working or playing depending on how you look at it. Enters Kassie
Kassie: "Mom I am wearing Mikele's panties!"
Mom: "Why?"
Kassie: "Because I want to and they don't tickle."
Mom: "OK??"

Gotta Love kids!

Friday Night Movie Night

This last Friday we had the rare occasion of having nothing on the schedule! It was great! So we decided to rent Monsters vs Aliens and have pizza (I had a frozen papa murphy's in the freezer so no mess) and caramel popcorn. It was great to just be home with my family around or sitting on me and hang out together.

OK, for anyone who has seen Monsters vs Aliens what did you think? It did have some pretty funny lines and totally mocked the President of the United States but I just don't think you can put it in the same category as Beauty and the Beast or Lion King. The kids loved it. Well Kassie didn't really like it until the big bug turned into a big butterfly then she loved it!

For those of you who asked, here is the best caramel popcorn recipe.

Great Grandma Murdock's Caramel Popcorn

2 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 pound butter
1/2 cup dark karol
1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Bring the brown sugar, butter and dark karol to a boil stirring often. Boil until "soft ball"stage. Add baking soda. Stir. The caramel will be all bubbly as you stir in the baking soda. Pour over air pop popcorn and serve. (to test to see if the caramel is at a "soft ball" stage fill a cup with cold water. Dribble some of the caramel into the water. With your fingers form the caramel into a ball. It should shape into a "soft ball"). ENJOY!!
